This place has a very good reputation in Cardiff and the chef is renown, having won various awards so expectations were high.
The place is very ordinary, above some shops in a fairly down market area of Cardiff. The restaurant itself is fairly nondescript and without character but very bright lights. It was a Saturday night and packed. Quite a lot of staff and so the service is pretty good.
The food is very, very good. I had the scallops to start – amazingly fresh and cooked to perfection, when they’re so soft they almost seem not cooked. Quite spicy. My friend had the soft shell crab, corn risotto. I tried the crab. Again, cooked to perfection and some herbs/spices under the batter. It was delicious.
For mains, I had the sea bass served in a banana leaf and served with a prawn risotto. Again, amazing food. Spicy but not in the usual curry house way. I think they called it Indian Fine Dining. My friend had the vegetarian platter and loved it. Everything was so well seasoned with amazing flavours and textures.
Compared to a standard curry house, it is more expensive, but compared to European fine dining, it wasn’t. Despite the bland setting and bright lighting which is a shame – nice to have surroundings that match the food – the food is so worth it. Highly recommend it and planning on going back for a lunch time to see what that’s like.
