As we celebrate five years since Anand George brought his cuisine to Cardiff, and the 1st birthday of Purple Poppadom, Chef has penned his thoughts on his culinary journey.

Purple Poppadom Celebrates 1st Birthday

“It is with a great sense of achievement that we mark our 5th anniversary of bringing our cuisine to Cardiff and the first birthday of Purple Poppadom.

I could not have achieved what we have in such a short space of time, without the support of the people of cardiff and wales.

When i arrived in 2007, i wanted to introduced a radically new concept in indian cuisine, and i am so pleased that the people here have shared my love of innovation.

Over the years we have built up great loyalty amongst our clients and also crucially amongst my team who have moved with me to create my new concept of Nouvelle Indian Cuisine at Purple Poppadom.

For me, Cardiff is almost unrecognisable from five years ago as a centre for cuisine.  The appreciation of good food, quality products and innovation here has never been stronger and the conversation between food lovers across social networks is incredible and exciting.

For us, Purple Poppadom was a huge step forward, I wanted the freedom to create new concepts in Indian cuisine and for me Purple Poppadom is the perfect stage.  You can see that from our new 501 celebration menu which came into force on 5th December.

We have explored entirely new ingredients, mainly Game based, including rabbit, pheasant and wild boar and goat, and for me that is the excitement of what we do.

This momentum of our Nouvelle Indian Cuisine is growing, and we will take it further, to entirely new levels and I look forward to our supporters coming with us on our culinary journey.”

    • Review via Tripadvisor by Owen G Richards 24th Oct 2018 We went for the set Sunday menu dishes and I can honestly say it’s probably the best Indian meal I’ve had. The starter of aloo chaat was incredible. The staff were really friendly and the service was great. I am looking forward to going back

    • Review via Tripadvisor by Saber S on 31st October 2018 This is an excellent restaurant. The food was freshly prepared and very tastey. The portions are smaller than normal but the food is perfectly cooked. The service was also excellent and quick. They have adequate professional number of staff who were always nearby to attend

    • Review via Tripadvisor by DenisinWales on 26th September 2018 1st despite the very long sign board covering 2 store fronts, the entrance is a tiny door at the far left. Once you climb to the 1st floor, you are greeted with a very understated and tasteful restaurant seating about 60-70 people. For a Tuesday night

    • Review by Ellym106, TripAdvisor, April 2018 We had an excellent meal here. We visited India in November and know how the food is supposed to be – and this is it! Everything was beautifully cooked and full of flavour, with our particular favourites being the onion pakoras, laccha parathas and the planner makhni – the
