Meet Adam Sharieff AY who joins us in the new role of Operations Manager at Purple Poppadom, Cardiff.

Moving to us from our good friends at Moksh in Cardiff Bay where he held a similar role since 2011, Adam like many of the PP team, has a career background at some of the world’s leading five star hotels.

Adam, who hails from Bangalore, India, gained a degree in hotel management in the city in 1995. In the world of work he quickly rose to the top when he took the position of manager at the 197-room Le Méridien Hotel in Bangalore.

Asked what attracted him to hotel management for his career, Adam said: “I love working in a service oriented industry, it all came naturally to me as a person and I am very happy in what I do,” said Adam.

Next came a move to an even larger property, the 350-room Elite Ashoka five star hotel, which was run by the Central Government of India. Here Adam was a Senior Manager, between 1999-2003, overseeing the operations at this large hotel which houses four restaurants.

Showing more than one string to his bow, in his spare time Adam devoted himself to public service in a two-year stint as Youth President of Bangalore, a role which saw him working with the regional Government Divisions to look after the interests of young people in schools and colleges.

2004 was a big year for Adam, having been offered and accepted a role as Restaurant Manager at the Café Naz group of restaurants, he moved to establish his career in the UK.

Soon promoted to Operations Manager, the role saw Adam travelling around the groups eight restaurants, from Cardiff to Horsham and Cambridge as well as London. “It was a very busy time, we had a significant chain of restaurants with two in London alone, and I was moving around all the branches, overseeing operations, it was a busy job,” says Adam.

In 2005 Adam married and decided that a more settled home base was required, so he became took over solely at Café Naz in Cardiff Bay, rising to the position of General Manager.

When the restaurant closed down in 2011, Adam followed Café Naz corporate chef Stephen Gomes to his nearby Moksh restaurant in Cardiff Bay, taking up the position of General Manager.

“I enjoyed working with Stephen Gomes and found his scientific approach to Indian cuisine very exciting,” said Adam.

By 2015 Adam, who has two sons and a daughter and lives in Cardiff, felt it was time to move on and in September he joined Purple Poppadom in the new role of Operations Manager.

“I have followed the work of Chef Anand George in recent years, he is a great chef and Purple Poppadom has a very good reputation for pioneering new Indian cuisine, not only in Cardiff but in the UK, but spreading further afield to Spain and France and wider.

In my new job I am amazed to see bookings from people from so many different nationalities who find out about our restaurant and travel to dine here.”

Outside of restaurant and family life Adam is a keen snooker player, having first taken to the green baize in India. He professes to a commendable all-time high break of 83 and regularly posts scores in the 60s and 70s.

As for his favourite dishes at PP, Adam said “There are so many I could choose, but I love the amazing Nandu Trio starter of crab and the Nadan Kozhi Curry home-style Kerala main course dish of chicken thigh, they are a great favourite of mine.”

We welcome Adam to our team at Purple Poppadom and look forward to his contribution to our continued success.

The starter of aloo chaat was incredible. The staff were really friendly and the service was great. I am looking forward to going back

    • Review via Tripadvisor by DenisinWales on 26th September 2018 1st despite the very long sign board covering 2 store fronts, the entrance is a tiny door at the far left. Once you climb to the 1st floor, you are greeted with a very understated and tasteful restaurant seating about 60-70 people. For a Tuesday night

Everything was beautifully cooked and full of flavour, with our particular favourites being the onion pakoras, laccha parathas and the planner makhni – the
